My mom gave me a old dresser that has been in the family for many years. When my sister was young my mom painted it teal green to match her bedroom colors. The dresser was in good condition so I took a couple weeks and stripped the awful paint away to reveal the glory underneath.
After struggling to strip the paint off and restore the dresser to its former beauty, I now think that anyone who paints (quality) wood furniture is a making a huge mistake. Enough with the chalk paint! Shabby chic is boring! Let the wood grain shine!
My biggest regret is that I didn’t have all the right tools, and I took too much of the veneer off of the top and sanded too hard on the grooves along the sides.
Here’s some progression pictures.
