I’ve been collecting antique bottles since I finished my archaeology degree. I have more than a hundred of them now and I wanted to put them on display in a place they would be visible to guests in our home. I was visiting the flea market when I found this lovely quartersawn oak medicine cabinet and had the idea to put the bottles on display in our powder room.
The oak cabinet originally had a mirror in the front, like a standard bathroom medicine cabinet. Mark replaced the mirror with a sheet of glass and we gently cleaned, sanded and rubbed the oak with bees wax and orange oil.
The cabinet goes so well in the bathroom, and displays the bottles so perfectly, like it’s ready for you to reach in and grab some tooth powder, cholera cure or bromo-seltzer in a moment of need.
