Silver Apprentice Wand

Just made a silver apprentice wand. I say ‘apprentice’ because it’s only 7.5 inches long, so it’s miniature compared with adult wands which are often 10 or more inches long. It’s made from an Edwardian corset hook; the handle is silver plated steel and the point is unplated steel. We used a blow torch to straighten it to a fine point.

The antique hook was made for a lady’s hand, so she could put her boots on after her corset was on, not an easy feat if you’ve ever tried. So it’s basically ergonomically designed for a lady’s hand, much better than most of the wooden wands I’ve seen. I also love how the patina gives it a cherished quality.
